Susan Millar, Ph.D.

Emeritus Director of Education Research

An anthropologist, senior scientist in the UW-Madison Wisconsin Center of Education Research and a national leader in the evaluation of science education reform initiatives, the focus of Susan Millar’s Education Research Group is on improving health outcomes. This group will create learning resources such as interactive digital media and computer gaming.

Among this research area’s first project is development of a game to help type 2 diabetes patients understand how the disease affects their bodies and how to manage its effects. Millar’s role will bridge both Morgridge and UW-Madions’s public Wisconsin Institute for Discovery as her research group will collaborate with scientists in both institutes to develop learning resources.

“Our efforts will be focused on three key audiences: children and youth, as they are our future scientists and citizens; adults who play crucial roles in developing young people; and individuals affected by specific diseases, including patients and their families, friends and caregivers.”
