Outreach Experiences

Goals

  • Make the science taking place at the Morgridge Institute accessible, exciting and relevant to students of all ages and all walks of life
  • Assist the Morgridge Education Research group in developing content for its digital learning platforms
  • Create material and hands-on interfaces related to Morgridge research for the informal learning environment in the Town Center at the Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery

Senior scientist and director of education and outreach at the WiCell Research Institute and a UW–Madison honorary associate/fellow in biochemistry at the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, Rupa Shevde is expanding her role to lead the development and operation of scientific learning programs directed at youth and the general public at the Morgridge Institute. Her group also will assist the education research team in developing content and help create materials for use in the Town Center at the Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery. The Town Center, located on the main floor of the facility, was built as a gathering and learning place that welcomes scientists and the public.

Morgridge Outreach Experiences will develop and implement inquiry-based instruction, otherwise known as ‘hands-on’ training. We will create programs for students, teachers and the general public focused on the Morgridge Institute’s research challenge areas. We hope our activities and presentations will allow audiences of all ages to explore the scientific and technological advancements occurring at the institute.”
